Hurricane Hotpot

Hurricane Hotpot

In preparation for Hurricane Irene and with the prospect of losing power my wife and I thought that huo guo (hot pot) would be a perfect meal to weather out the storm.

Hot Pot consisting of a simmering pot of broth at the center of the table which you use to cook various ingredients such as thinly sliced meat, leafy vegetables, mushrooms, wontons, egg dumplings, and seafood. The cooked ingredients are then eaten with your very own, custom made dipping sauce (one of the best parts).

If you're going to ride out a storm, this is definitely the way to do it. Thankfully, when Irene did arrive she packed far less of a punch than what had been anticipated. There was however a tremendous amount of flooding in our area and lots of homes and business are still trying to recover.

Hope all those affected by Hurricane Irene are back on their feet soon.

ps - feels good to be posting on Flickr again. So much catching up to do:)

Thanks for stopping by - have a great day!

Bella

Bella

I find it interesting. My daughter runs a small pet sitting business. She is an absolute dog lover and adores just about any breed of dog. She will come into your home twice a day to feed and walk your dog while you are off doing a photo shoot or having a vacation. The thing that I find interesting is that 9 times out of 10 her "little projects" get attached to me both literally and in my heart! This week she is tending Bella, a little maltese who's "mama" is a cooking teacher and taking her students to a cooking competition. Bella normally lives about 30 miles from our home but this week she is a fixture IN our home, attached to me in every way possible.
Don't you love it when your children's projects become your own?? I do.. this week anyway! As always, comments are appreciated :)

Selamat Hari Raya.

We are in the midst of a long weekend. WHEE!!!

So I spent most of yesterday making cottage pie for a potluck. I thoroughly miss cooking although it gets really tiring. The pan I brought to the do got thoroughly whacked. I couldn't help but look on like a proud mama...

This was Syat on her vist to Singapore a couple months back. It's nice to know we're similar in the way that we're pretty easy to please. Just release us in a bookstore or a stationery store.

More pretty stuff in bokeh in the comments. <3
